Defending the Truth Today: Apologetics and Discipleship

In these sessions, we will be looking at the nature of truth – that it is discovered (not created), unchanging, objective and inescapable. We shall also discuss how it can be practically demonstrated in casual conversation. We shall go on to argue that Truth is not just an idea or a concept but the Infinite-Personal-Relational God of the Bible. He is Trinitarian – therefore Transcendent and Immanent, All knowing, All loving and Just. We shall also demonstrate that Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Son of God has legitimate basis to be the Truth and the only Way to His Father, the infinitely holy God of the Bible. We shall discuss that what Christ came to accomplish was far beyond the scope of any prophet, teacher or miracle-worker.

Talking Truth in a Postmodern Culture

Modernity emphasised the role of reason and contributed to the growth of science as well as humanism with its unlimited optimism in human endeavours. Postmodernism, as a reaction denigrates rationality and looks for truth more in a subjective deconstructed manner. It denies that there is any truth out there. In these sessions, we shall seek to challenge the postmodern assumption that there is no absolute meta-narrative that applies to all of humanity. At the same time, we shall seek to recognise the degeneration of rationality into rationalism brought about by the Enlightenment and also argue that the community of the Church ultimately demonstrates Truth in Christ by faithfully reflecting Trinitarian love and relationships.
