Omega Discipleship Ministries
Ian Malins is a Bible-teacher, pastor, and author of many training courses and study books being used widely across the South Pacific region and parts of Asia. He is well-known for his cyclical Discipleship Training series which takes a person from the "seeker" stage right through to becoming a disciple-maker. He and his wife Diane were formerly Bible-teachers at the Christian Leaders' Training College of Papua New Guinea for 14 years, followed by 10 years of pastoral ministry in Australian churches, and are now devoted to growing believers to maturity by encouraging and equipping churches to implement intentional discipleship training. They are founders of "Omega Discipleship Ministries" and have run Discipleship training seminars in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, East Malaysia, Philippines, Australia, and New Zealand. They were also speakers at the first "Asian Pacific Consultation on Discipleship" in East Malaysia in 2001.

Ian has written many Theological Extension training courses which are being used widely across the South Pacific Islands with annually over 4,000 students enrolled. He has also written numerous books on various aspects of Christian discipleship. He is best known for his book "Come follow Me" which has been described as "the most comprehensive teaching material on making disciples". Other popular titles include "Go and Make Disciples" – a practical training manual for disciplers; "My First Steps" – a tool to help disciple new Christians in the foundations of the Christian life; "Come Let us Worship" – understanding the importance and inner meaning of worship as a way of life rather than as just an event on Sundays; and two most recent titles on "Revival".

With a primary degree in Agriculture followed by further degrees in Theology and Education, Ian brings a practical "down-to-earth" approach in his preaching and teaching and an urgent appeal to churches to get back to the primary task of "making disciples". Through the books he has written he has also provided the tools to help Christians and churches do just that.

1. Devotion (July 10, 8.15am) – ‘Truth and the Exchanged Life’
‘The Exchanged Life’ – this simple description brings us to the very heart and essence of true discipleship – ‘I no longer live but Christ lives in me’. I cannot live the Christian life myself, nor can I ever become a disciple by my own striving and effort. Understanding what the ‘exchanged life’ means is the key to all the rest. It speaks of Lordship, of surrender, of ‘abiding in Christ’ and the secret of knowing day by day the indwelling transformation that His Spirit brings. This is the core truth that we must know if we are to be true disciples ourselves and the truth we must teach if we are to make disciples of others.

2. Workshop – ‘How to make disciples: the 6 essential marks’
If the core purpose of the church is to ‘make disciples’, we need to define what a disciple is from a Biblical perspective, and then look at how to help a person to become one. What are the essential steps in the process of making disciples? In this workshop we will explore these areas and look at practical ways to help believers keep on going and growing towards spiritual maturity as authentic disciples of Jesus Christ. We will share practical resources and experiences from our own discipling ministry to encourage you in yours.

3. Workshop – ‘The Urgent need of our churches:

Getting back to Intentional Discipleship Training’

(With Ian Malins & Rev.Tony Yeo)

The crisis of the modern church is a crisis of depth. We are all too often multiplying superficial and immature believers rather than ‘making disciples’. How can we get back to our primary task? How can we make sure we are obeying Jesus’ call to ‘make disciples’ rather than just hoping it will happen automatically? Jesus has shown us the way, and we will look at what this is.

Then we will look at how to put these principles into practice in the making of an Intentional Disciple making Church. After hearing the call and recognizing the crisis in Disciple making, join us now for a journey where a local church is seeking to live out the philosophy, principles, processes and practical outworking of making the dream of an Intentional Disciple-making Church come true!
